Hello everyone! Now that Darla is home and continues to progress as expected with her recovery, I will only be posting occasionally.
Darla is in good spirits and continues to do well with her therapies weekly - physical, occupational and speech therapy. The speech therapist has her focusing on Suduko puzzles to work with numbers. She still requires consistent pain meds to keep her pain well controlled. Darla has another follow up visit this coming week with the surgeon at UCI to evaluate her status. She is hoping to receive clearance to put full weight on her right foot. This is the ankle that was crushed and has required many weeks non-weight bearing to heal. Once she can bear full weight on both feet, her focus will be to eliminate the walker and to graduate to a cane for walking support. Darla said she has successfully nicked and scratched most of their furniture around the house trying to maneuver with the walker.
Feel free to contact Darla directly at darla@covad.net in between posts. She is up and about now and tries to get out of the house with friends or family every couple days for a change in scenery. Darla even talked the occupational therapist into taking her to the pet store to buy bird food. She is definitely making the best of things.
Give her a ring or drop her an email. She would love to hear from you!
