No More Walker

With much persistence and determination, Darla has continued to make great progress. She was released a few weeks ago to bear full weight on her right leg/ankle and worked closely with her therapy team to modify her physical therapy regimen to build the strength in both legs and improve her stamina. Now that Darla can fully walk on two feet, it is clear that she has a limp due to a 1" variance with her right leg being shorter than her left leg. This was a result of the surgery to repair her shattered pelvis. The surgeon reported that the surgical team did the best they could to fully repair her pelvis, but due to the extent of the damage, it was the best outcome possible. She is being fitted for orthotic inserts for her right shoe to attempt to address this issue. Currently, the height difference in her legs creates pain after walking any distance as her hips are not even.

I'm happy to report that Darla was discharged from her home therapy program with Rehab Without Walls; however, she continues her strength training at a local gym. Darla is also now able to fully walk without any assistive devices (walker or cane) and can resume driving, although she is avoiding the freeway.

Thanks again for all your prayers and good wishes. The outcome could have been so much worse. Darla would enjoy hearing from you now that her mobility has increased. Please give her a call.

Happy Labor Day!
