Darla was discharged home last Thursday. She spent 5 weeks and 1 day in the hospital after her accident and was more than ready to be in her own home again, surrounded by family and her beloved little dogs. While Darla is doing incredibly well given the extent of her injuries, she still has a long recovery road ahead of her . The picture above was taken with Kevin's cell phone as she was discharged from the acute rehab hospital.Kevin & Darla just moved to a 2-story home so it was necessary to set her up with a hospital bed downstairs until she can begin to navigate the stairs to their bedroom. She began physical therapy immediately at home and routinely works with her PT, OT, ST and social worker.
Darla is doing well with the extensive support from RWW. She is in good spirits and continues to challenge herself to demonstrate progress from the day before. However, it requires a tremendous amount of effort for her to bathe, dress and use her wheelchair or walker to ambulate or transfer. She requires rest after any activity and cat naps throughout the day.
Darla would like to thank our family and her friends for their love and support. She also loved seeing Dad every day while she was hospitalized. It brought her a great deal of comfort and needed support. Many people have provided assistance to her and/or her immediate family; she is very grateful.
