Transition Week

Darla met with the Director of Rehab Without Walls (RWW) today to discuss her transition home on 6/11. She will continue receiving intensive therapy at home, up to 4 hours per day. As she progresses, the plan of care will be adjusted. Darla felt very comfortable with their discussion and the plan for homecare. She will definitely need the help of her two daughters that are home from college, as well as continued visits from Dad, and her mother in-law, Betty, while Kevin is at work. Kevin is excited at the thought of having Darla back home again. Dad purchased a Sleep by Number air bed to help make her more comfortable once she gets home. She is grateful for the gift and can't wait to sleep in her own bed.

On the clinical side of things, Darla had a bit of a rough time the last couple days. On her own, she tried to stretch out the hours between her pain medication and it was just too much. She struggled with pain after not having a consistent therapeutic level the last 48 hours and it affected her blood pressure and her ability to participate in physical therapy. She was unable to focus on walking today due to the pain. It made her realize that her body isn't at a point yet where she can dramatically decrease the pain meds. She will get there in due time though. Darla will be working with her regular physician and the pain management physician to develop a transition plan for the week and pain management at home. After all, it's only been 2 1/2 weeks since her major pelvis surgery. Jeez, I've seen people need more pain medicine for a tonsillectomy!

If you would like to keep in touch with Darla once she is discharged home, you can reach her at: 3719 Yuba River Drive, Ontario, CA 91761, phone
909-632-1249 after 6/11. I'm sure she would love to hear from you. I will continue to keep you posted on her progress once she is home.
