D-Day!

"D" as in discharge day! Believe it or not, the target date for Darla to be discharged home from the rehab hospital is June 11th. It's remarkable how far she has come in such a short period of time. She will be going home on a program called Rehab Without Walls (RWW). RWW is an intensive, multi-disciplinary program (PT, ST, OT, MSW) that provides the same level of rehab that an in-patient acute rehab hospital provides, but in the home setting. This program will ensure that Darla has a safe and supportive transition home, and they will continue to support her therapy needs until she reaches her recovery goals. It's a wonderful program and is a division of Gentiva where I worked previously. (It helps to have some inside contacts!)

In the interim, Darla continues to work very hard during her rehab sessions where she practices walking. She is using a three legged walker and doing well. Kevin came to watch her therapy session today and Darla said he was grinning "ear to ear" as she walked across the room. Early on, we all had concerns whether or not walking would be a possibility anytime in the near future so her progress has been very reassuring.

We continue to be amazed at her progress. Miracles definitely happen and in her case, she has had several.
