Better, faster, stronger...today was a great day for Darla with some giant strides forward.
I talked to Darla this morning and she was very happy that the Orthopedic team (at teaching hospitals they seem to travel in packs of three) released her to start moving or more aptly, taking baby steps down the rehab path. Within an hour, they had set up a trapeze over her bed so she can start strengthening her abdominal muscles by pulling herself up to a straight sitting position. She called me a couple hours later and was thrilled that she was able to sit up straight in her bed, dangle her legs over the side for a couple minutes and actually turn on her side. This is amazing progress only 1 day post surgery. A physical therapist will be working with her daily now to improve her range of motion and increase her stamina and ability to transfer to a chair.
To top it off, Kevin was able to bring her favorite shampoo from home and wash her hair which was a real treat.
Onward and upward for this Bionic woman!
