Much to my surprise, I received a call directly from Darla around 9:45 pm. She was alert and sounded really good on the phone. She said the pain in her ankle has decreased by at least 50% following the surgery today and that she is feeling great. I expected that she would be drowsy and groggy for the next 24 hours, but that wasn't the case. She sounded excited to be moving forward and getting the show on the road so to speak. The pelvis surgery is scheduled for Friday.
Darla has been moved from the Neuro ICU to a private room in the CCU. She is ecstatic about being in a private room with a door, but still has a window looking out to the nurses station so she can see what's going on. Darla prefers the privacy of her own room rather than being in an open unit with only curtains. She commented that the nurses in this unit are wonderful and that she just had the best bath since her ordeal began. She was so happy to finally have her hair washed and the nurse told her to feel free to bring in any special shampoo from home. (This is a big deal for women!)
Her progress tonight is a strong step in the right direction.
