Picking Up the Pace

Darla has settled very nicely into Casa Colina. She said "It really does look like a resort!" She is enjoying the 1:1 care she is receiving from the therapists and nurses and feels they are more caring and compassionate. UCI was frustrating for her at times because there were so many different residents involved and she did not have one point of contact. She was also in a noisy room that made it nearly impossible to get any sleep.

At Casa Colina, the therapists didn't waste any time starting her physical and occupational therapy. She is spending at least 2 hours per day on rehab which includes bathing, getting dressed, transferring to a wheelchair, etc. They are working on adjusting her pain medication to ensure she can focus on rehab at the highest level. Tomorrow, they are going to try her on the parallel bars.

I called Darla around 6:00 pm to see how she was doing and she said she had to go because she was wheeling herself over to play Bingo! It's good for her to socialize with other patients. She will probably be in the rehab hospital for 2-4 weeks before venturing home.

Stay tuned for further updates!
