Darla went into surgery for her ankle today about noon. The surgery lasted 2 hours, 15 minutes exactly as expected. He surgically inserted pins and plates as necessary to realign her ankle. We wondered whether to expect her ankle pain to increase initially due to the placement of the pins/plates or decrease since her bones are now set properly again. The surgeon said it should feel significantly better after being realigned correctly now.
The surgeon wrapped her ankle in a temporary splint which she will have for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, he will put her in a moon boot. He said her ankle will heal before she is ready to walk after her pelvis surgery.
She is still in the recovery unit where they are waiting to assign a private room to her. It sounds like she is graduating from ICU!
