Yesterday was a rough day for Darla. She struggled with her pain not being well controlled during physical and occupational therapy. It's pretty much a tough love situation. The patients are expected to do everything possible for themselves. She bathes herself now, does her hair, transfers from the bed to a wheelchair and is expected to wheel herself wherever she needs to go. She is on the Orange team and the therapy schedule is posted so she knows where to be at what time. It's a lot of HARD work and will require patience, persistence and a positive attitude to get back to her former physical condition.
Darla is enjoying regaining her independence and taking control of her medical care. There are numerous activities and she was looking forward to today as there is no therapy on Saturday's. She will be back on her therapy schedule again tomorrow.
When I spoke to her this afternoon, she was having lunch with Kevin, our dad and her in-laws in the cafeteria. She was really enjoying their company and happy to be in a place where they can all enjoy a meal together again.
Please continue calling, visiting and sending words of encouragement. The hospital contact information is noted in a prior posting. We hope that she will be able to go home sometime within the next 3-4 weeks.
